Greek Catholic Church of Újfehértó
The church is a free-standing, single nave church on a small hill, parallel to the street, built in late Baroque style, with a frontal tower.
The church
The present church was built from 1806 to 1832 on a stone foundation of brick, during the episcopate of Elek Pócsi and the pastorate of Mihály Szilágyi. With diligent work, the wooden and tin-roofed tower with the cross and the bell was consecrated on 20 September 1858. The complete iconostasis and altars were made by the Rétay and Benedek Institute in Budapest in 1913, and the wall paintings were painted by István Takács in 1954. In 2009 the icon of Máriapócsi rested twice in the church, the copy of the icon in the church is the work of Zsolt Makláry.
In 2019, the then sixty-five-year-old paintwork was worn and dusty, and the church was in need of updating and renovation in several respects.
Parish priest Antal Kocsis asked us to do the work. Tibor Anducska and his father Lajos fully restored the wall paintings and donated a new altar table and a new preparation table for the church.
